Buttons like the ones to add/promote your content on Digg have a rather prominent place in posts and webpages.  Why couldn't that same thought not be mimicked for sharing buttons?

 Instead of "Digg/Dugg" the button could display a + sign, an infinite sign, share tag or any text or symbol that you prefer.  With a drop-down menu that displays when it's clicked.  The drop-down menu shows all the sites and services through their, or the ones you attribuated, logo.  Leaving the names to be shown through the alternate message that displays when hovering above them.

The menu could be devided by tabs in a number of categories like :

• (social) networks
• (social) news 
• (social) bookmarking 
• mail to 
• random 
• all 
• others 
• ... 

An other way to display and incorporate those options could be by making them appear from the right or left side of the button, depending on the orientation you gave it.  Those could then display the categories you have set earlier by using back and forth buttons to navigate between these items that are displayed right under the button.  After having selected a service the main button changes to the logo of that service and the categories become a "send to" button.
